Beyond a Career: Embracing Your God-Given Purpose

At the Worldview Institute, we are passionate about helping students discern their calling—but calling is far more than choosing a career. While modern culture ties calling to personal fulfillment or a dream job, Scripture reminds us that our first calling is to Christ Himself. A call to live in obedience to his word, to walk in faith, to grow in grace, to seek wisdom, to worship with intentionality, and live out our faith in all other spheres of life; in our secondary callings at home, at work, in the church, and in our communities.
As students explore what they enjoy and what they’re gifted in, we introduce them to the doctrine of vocation or how God works though ordinary people and everyday tasks to serve the world and grow his kingdom.
Using Gene Veith's God at Work, students learn that vocation isn’t inward-facing—it’s not about self-expression or “living the dream.” Instead, vocation looks outward. It teaches students to steward their time, gifts, and responsibilities so they can genuinely serve others.
We explore how work is a gift, a means of grace, and divine provision from God to equip us to do his work in the family, in the church, and in our communities. Vocation, as Veith teaches it, flows out of the Gospel. Because God has already saved us, we are free to love and serve our neighbors as God provides us with the means to do so.
Ultimately, every calling leads back to our highest purpose: “to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.” That’s the foundation we want every student to build upon.
